About the Artist
JMW is a contemporary oil painter whose work explores the quiet drama of light as it moves through landscapes, interiors, and still-life arrangements. Rooted in the tradition of observational painting, each canvas is built through patient layering of colour and careful attention to tonal relationships.
After studying fine art and spending years painting en plein air across the countryside, JMW established a studio practice dedicated to capturing the transient beauty of everyday scenes. The resulting paintings balance realism with a painterly sensitivity, inviting viewers to pause and look more closely.
Work by JMW can be found in private collections throughout the United Kingdom and abroad. In addition to painting, JMW teaches regular classes and workshops, sharing a love of oil painting with students of all levels.
“I paint because I want to hold on to the light — the way it falls across a table, catches the edge of a cloud, or warms a doorway in the late afternoon. Painting is my way of saying: look at this, it matters.”
